WEAVERHAM completed a double over old foes Davenham on Saturday to keep alive hopes they could win a race for promotion to the top flight.

The Russets sit fourth in Division One, 36 points adrift of second-placed Grappenhall with four matches left.

The rivals are scheduled to meet next month.

Weaverham racked up 276-8 at Butcher’s Stile, led by James Lewis (90), Wilden Cornwall (48) and skipper Ian Eaton (41).

Stephen Bliss took 3-69.

Davenham were dismissed for 171 after tea, when Cornwall (5-42) and Rob McMillan (4-27) did the damage.

Sam Hunt (73) and stand-in skipper Mike Sambell (35) were the hosts’ leading scorers.

Oulton Park remain in contention too after having the better of a draw with visitors Cheadle Hulme at Little Budworth.

The home team posted 257-1 before declaring, an innings that included an unbeaten 225-run partnership for the second wicket between Daniel Leech (130no) and Pat Roberts (100no).

Together they struck 35 fours and a maximum.

However Hulme dug in to reach 215-7 by stumps, boosted by a ton from Talor Williams (102).

Sam Blandford (2-56) and Guy Emmett (2-39) were the pick of Oulton’s attack.

Middlewich were pushed closer to the relegation trapdoor in Division Two following a six-wicket defeat at promotion-chasing Upton.

The visitors posted 180-8 after winning the toss, the highlight a 58-run stand for the fourth wicket between Kieran Boyle (85) and Richard Clorley (22).

Matt Ingram returned figures of 6-61.

Upton replied with 181-4, Nat Sariman (51) scoring a half-century at the top of the order.

Bad light prevented Northwich from completing a run-chase in the same section at Lindow, where they were set a target of 151 to win.

Gladwin Cherian (25no) appeared to be steering them there before umpires brought a close to the contest with the men from Moss Farm on 129-8.

Earlier, Sam Stoneley (5-39) and captain Mark Walker (4-35) had starred with the ball as the home team succumbed for 150.
