JAMES Gurney triumphed in the final Mid Cheshire Individual Competition of the season on Sunday when he won the Cowley Cup at Rudheath Sports.

In the final, James defeated Joe Tomkinson to join his brother Jon on the list of winners.

The qualifying sessions for the pairs competition at Middlewich British Legion were played out on Saturday and Sunday and the Mid Cheshire partnerships making in through to the final day on Sunday, October 1, were David Mayne & Dave Tomlins, Owen Cookson & Adi Faulkner, and Andrew Poynton & Stuart Kellet.

The qualifying sessions for the singles continue this Saturday and Sunday, starting at 5pm.

Section Three of the Mid Cheshire League completed its fixtures on Friday night, with Castle Sports D taking the title by a slender four shots over Barnton CC B.

As Barnton had completed their fixtures on Thursday night, the Castle team travelled to Davenham knowing a score of 161 would be enough to secure the title but their victory looked in doubt until Lee Lynch won the last game to ensure the team finished top of the table.

All the other divisions of the league have a further two games to play.
