NORTHWICH Victoria made it two wins from two under Matt Barnes’ management on Tuesday night, but there were midweek defeats for 1874 Northwich and Winsford United.

A superb first half set Vics up for victory in their trip to Tividale, with Sam Unwin bagging twice in a 4-0 victory over a home side that finished the game with nine men.

It is a long-awaited first away win of the Midland Football League Premier Division season for Vics at the 12th attempt.

Callum Parker opened the scoring on 16 minutes, with Unwin doubling the lead just a minute later before an own goal put Barnes’ men in a position of real command at half time.

Unwin’s second midway through the second half rounded off the scoring before two late red cards for the hosts, with Lewis Taylor-Boyce and Jakob Burroughs dismissed inside the final 10 minutes.

It is two more away games for Vics in the Midlands Football League Premier Division this week – they visit Highgate United on Saturday before a trip to Dudley Town on Tuesday night.

Closer to home, 1874 could not mark player/co-manager Matt Woolley’s 400th appearance with victory as their long losing run continued.

As with Saturday’s reverse against Hednesford Town, an early goal proved decisive at Townfield with Jake Moult netting what turned out to be the winner for visitors Hanley Town after just five minutes.

Greens’ 14th defeat in a row edges them closer to relegation and they will now prepare for a visit to Trafford – the team just outside the drop zone but 14 points ahead – on Saturday.

Winsford United dropped to the bottom of the North West Counties League First Division South after slipping to a 2-0 home defeat to New Mills, who started the night as the league’s back-markers.

Kal Haigh put the visitors in front just before half time and despite pushing for a leveller for most of the second half, Winsford could not break through and were caught on the counter-attack in injury time as Danny Warburton sealed the victory.

Blues travel to Sandbach United on Saturday before welcoming Cheadle Heath Nomads to Barton Stadium on Tuesday.
